How to Vote

Please plan to take some time and go to the polls early tomorrow. Reports from voters who went to the County Election Board on Friday say the turnout was high and the line was long. This is partly because the electorate is more energized than it has been in years -- but also because OK put so many questions on the ballot, each voter needs a lot more time to exercise their rights! In the end, the election may go to those who care the most -- those who take their vote (or victory) for granted may turn away and go home.

Some very detailed and timely voting information comes from Jeff Johnson of PFLAG. Read on for links and specific instructions about finding your polling place, and what to do if you feel you are being denied the right to vote.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS must be returned through the mail by 7:00 p.m. November 2nd. EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING TODAY FROM 8 a.m. TO 6 p.m. FOR TULSA COUNTY RESIDENTS IS ONLY AT: TULSA COUNTY ELECTION BOARD 555 NORTH DENVER AVENUE TULSA, OKLAHOMA 74103 (918-596-5787) (918-596-4536 FAX)

Voting Checklist
  • Find out today where your polling place is by calling your county clerk or checking www.mypollingplace.com
  • Alternatively, call 1-866-MYVOTE1 to find your polling place.
  • Polls in Oklahoma open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Print the League of Women Voters' card in English or Spanish and put it in your wallet or purse.
  • Bring a government-issued picture ID like a driver's license or passport when you vote. Some states require it but if there are problems, you will certainly need it. If you have a cell phone, take it to call for help if need be.
  • As you enter the polls, note if there is an Election Protection person outside the polling place.
  • If you are not listed as a registered voter, talk to the Election Protection person. If there is not one call 1-866-OUR-VOTE for instructions. If neither of these helps, ask for a provisional ballot, but you will need a picture ID to get one.
  • For other election resources, see the League of Women Voters website. Your vote counts. Don't let anyone take it away from you.
To find your polling station on the internet for Tulsa County go to:

http://www.tulsacounty.org/precinctlocator/precinctform.asp Enter your home address to locate your polling station. If you have not changed your voting registration address since you last moved, type in your old address and vote at that polling station. By law, you must be given a provisional ballot at a polling station if your name is not on the rolls. In several states (Florida, Michigan and Ohio for example) courts have ruled that if you were at the wrong polling station they can void your provisional ballot. To find directions to your polling place go to mapquest and enter your home address and the address of the precinct located above.
